    Description

Souvenir medallion from the 1905 Lewis & Clark Exposition in Portland, OR.  Listed as the "Facing Busts" Dollar in Jeff Shevlin's book on West Coast Expositions. 14-11 in Brass, originally Gold Plated.  Perhaps Very Fine, obviously carried as a pocket piece, a trace of the original Gold plating remains in spots.  Per Shevlin, most had "rabbit ears" attached at 1:00 and 1:00, applied after striking.  This shows evidence of their addition, and later removal (shown). To state this this is Rare is perhaps an understatement. In 30 years of looking for So Called Dollars and Exposition material, and being no more than 80 miles from where the event was held, I have never seen or owned another - until Jeff's book came out, I never even knew it existed!  Shevlin lists this as an R-7, however based upon my own experience it would have to be closer to the "R-8" end of that range.  While the condition is not ideal perhaps, the ability to simply acquire one may be of more importance.
I am also offering an example of another rare Lewis & Clark SCD, Shevlin SH 14-15, as a separate listing.
